How we began

A guide's dream, grown into a promise

Makito began in 2021 with a single Land Cruiser, one guide, and a stubborn belief: that a Tanzania safari should feel personal, honest and utterly seamless. No off-the-shelf tours, no pressure, just journeys shaped patiently around each traveller.

Five years on, we've hosted thousands of guests from every corner of the world, yet we've kept the same small-team care that started it all. We still answer your emails ourselves. We still meet you at the airport. And we still measure success by the look on your face at your first river crossing.

From our base in Moshi, in the shadow of Kilimanjaro, we design safaris, climbs and island escapes that give back to the wild places and communities we love.
